He took social media to make the announcement on Friday, 9th January. He wrote,
“I would like to formally announce my candidacy for the upcoming House of Representatives election for Gorkha Constituency No. 1. The beginning of change from my own village, my own soil. New force, new face, new Nepal.”
Further, he mentioned that his group is already actively mobilizing supporters all over the nation for a “movement for change” rather than a traditional political party.
Talking about the former government as ‘selfish’ and ‘corrupt’, he said,
“ They have dragged us into politics. If it's politics they want, that’s what they’ll get. We will be running for the next election because we are not going to back down now.”
The 36 year old clarified that his team is working to ensure “that every voice of the Nepalese people is heard”.
Talking about his candidacy, he mentioned,
“If I just run as an independent candidate, we won’t have this force of youths. Together, we are stronger.”
Gurung is also known for his key effort in the unification of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and Kulman Ghising.
Sudan Gurung, the Prominent Figure of Anti-Corruption Gen Z Movement
Gurung led the mass Nepalese Gen Z movement that took place in September 2025. The demonstration resulted in the downfall of the government of KP Sharma Oli. Though the country received a new government after the movement, it came with a huge sacrifice. At least 76 people were killed in the protest that included a 12 year old child and 19 young students. Gurung was involved in the extensive negotiations with the President and the Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel that gave Nepal the very first female Prime Minister Sushila Karki.
Before being a philanthropist and a political activist, Gurung worked as a DJ and an event manager. Following the death of his own son in the April 2015 Nepal Earthquake, Gurung started working as a social worker. He created Hami Nepal in 2015 but it was officially registered in 2020. The organization connects donors directly with recipients and ensures that 100% of the donations reach the needy avoiding administrative costs. All volunteers working in the team in problem authentication, logistics, and delivery bear their own expenses.
The organization was actively operating as an alternative emergency response with over 1,600 members during COVID 19 pandemic. In addition, the foundation aided injured people and pregnant women during the 2021 Nepal flood and also the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquakes received significant help from the team.
Most importantly, the organization Hami Nepal transparently unveils their account showing all the funds received, kinds received, total amount spent and total amount left in their account.
Let’s hope for the best for the forthcoming election of the House of the Representatives!
