India reached the semifinal of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 on the back of Sanju Samson’s brilliant batting performance.

In the final Super 8 match played on Sunday, India defeated West Indies by 5 wickets to advance to the semifinals. Samson scored an unbeaten 97 runs off 50 balls.
Chasing a strong target of 196 runs set by West Indies, India completed the chase in 19.2 overs, losing 5 wickets. With 7 runs needed in the final over, Samson hit a six and a four to seal the victory.
Tilak Varma scored 27, captain Suryakumar Yadav made 18, and Hardik Pandya added 17 runs. It was also India’s most successful run chase in T20 World Cup history.
For West Indies, Shamar Joseph and Jason Holder took 2 wickets each, while Akeal Hosein claimed 1 wicket.
Earlier, after losing the toss and batting first, West Indies scored 195 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. Roston Chase was the highest scorer with 40 runs. Jason Holder remained unbeaten on 37, and Rovman Powell scored an unbeaten 34.
From 119 for 4, Holder and Powell shared a 76-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah took 2 wickets, while Hardik Pandya and Varun Chakravarthy picked up 1 wicket each.
India will now play against England for a place in the final. In the other semifinal, South Africa will face New Zealand.
