Portugal: With the main slogan of “Let’s preserve the language, religion and culture of the Tamang people,” Manjushree Sambat 2862 Sonam Lhochhar was celebrated grandly in Lisbon on Sunday under the organization of Nepal National Tamang Ghedung Portugal. The program, organized with the aim of keeping their original art, culture and identity alive despite their exile, saw a large presence of Nepalis scattered across Portugal.
The formal ceremony, chaired by Phurpa Tamang, President of National Tamang Ghedung Portugal, was attended by renowned Tamang cultural figures and senior singer Chandra Kumar Dong as the chief guest. Sujan Lama, President of NRNA Portugal and founding patron of Ghedung Portugal, was present as a special guest at the program.
Similarly, Rai Society President Dipesh Rai, Shram Sanskriti Party President Bikash Ale, Dharma Guru Furi Sherpa, and representatives of various organizations were present. The speakers praised the role played by the organizers in preserving their festivals and culture despite their exile and emphasized mutual harmony and unity.
A grand cultural program was organized at the ‘Republica Dr. Music Concert Hall’ in Lisbon. Famous artists from Nepal enthralled the audience during the musical evening. The hall was filled with the famous cello songs of senior singer Chandra Kumar Dong, while the audience was enthralled by the performance of famous singer Rajesh Payal Rai, known as ‘Rai is King’.
Young cello singer Nagwang Lama, singer and composer Shekhar Lama and Sudip Yonjan performed their hit songs at the program, making the atmosphere more energetic. The unique performances of local artists along with national artists added more excitement to the program. Participants dressed in Tamang costumes and the rhythm of the cello gave a sense of Nepaliness to the Lisbon concert hall.
The organizers have expressed confidence that the program, which saw significant participation from Nepalis living in Portugal for employment and study, has not only promoted Nepali indigenous culture abroad but also strengthened the brotherhood between the communities.
All the guests present at the program were welcomed by the organization's advisor, Padam Lama, while the program was conducted by Secretary Chhayadba Lama.
